Awarded Contract with National Library of Medicine

On March 3rd Haller Education Consulting was selected to meet the education and public outreach needs for the National Library of Medicine. Haller Education Consulting will collaborate with NLM scientists and educators to design, develop, and produce instructional materials and identify innovative approaches to increase the effectiveness of the outreach program.

Initial plans include developing instructional materials for existing and future exhibitions produced and disseminated by the NLM. Two immediate topics we will address include:
• "Frankenstein: Penetrating the Secrets of Nature" currently on exhibit, and
• "Binding Wounds, Pushing Boundaries: African Americans in Civil War Medicine" scheduled to open in September of 2010.

This opportunity continues to reflect Doug's interest in working with subject matter experts who must demonstrate the broader impacts of their work to the general public. Past collaborations with scientists have resulted in K-12 instructional materials on climate change, astronomy, and space weather and public education materials to reduce the incidents of accidents or mortality associated with avalanches.

About the NLM
The Exhibition Program of the National Library of Medicine presents lively and informative exhibitions that enhance the public and scholarly awareness and appreciation of the National Library of Medicine's collections. The exhibitions cover a wide range of topics, reflecting the Program staff's scholarly research in science, medicine, technology, and history.
